START REPAIR SESSION 4:01PM

Presentation:  Hewlett Packard Pavillion laptop, white shell, AMD Turion64 X2 1.8ghz CPU, 2GB DDR2-667, 160GB hard drive, running Windows Vista Service Pack 2.  Machine looks to have been taken care of very well, rating an 8.75/10 on the Brent scale.  

Problems:  Computer is claimed to have some Trojan viruses on the machine, supposedly already repaired by Geek Squad personnel but lacks any evidence of such.  Computer seems a little sluggish, but this is mostly due to the Windows Vista operating system.  Would advise to upgrade to Windows 7 in the near future if circumstances allow.  Also noted that the included AC adapter with Best Buy stickers on it is damaged and will not charge the laptop at all.  

Proposed solution:  Run MalwareBytes to cleanse computer of any spyware/adware/malware/viruses that might be present on the machine.  Uninstall Norton 360 and replace with Avira Antivirus Free Edition.  Run Windows update and download all updates current to date 4/15/2010.  Run program PC-Decrapifier and delete unnecessary programs to improve computer performance.  Replace AC adapter one of two ways - order replacement AC adapter via eBay (Cost $9.55), or call HP parts department and ask for a replacement AC adapter.  If department demands payment for adapter, forego ordering adapter from HP and order eBay replacement.

Actions taken:  MalwareBytes scan, 3 reported instances of infection.  Infections cleansed, no further actions necessary.  Removal of Norton 360, install Avira Antivirus and update to latest definitions.  Run PC-Decrapifier and uninstall approximately 15 unneeded programs.  AC adapter replacement has been discussed with laptop owner and has been advised of all possible outcomes.  Customer also advised of the need to run Windows Update to keep computer up-to-date on a regular basis.

Additional notes:  Geek Squad sucks.  No further explanation needed.  User should also run Windows Update and download all updates available for sake of stability and spyware.
